LEV Testing

HSG 258 states that Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV’s) must be periodically inspected at least every 14 months to ensure that it is working effectively.

Poorly installed or maintained LEV systems are causing an estimated 13,000 lung and breathing issues a year.

Let us help you to not be one of them!

Why Have My LEV Tested with Orvitec?

Having previously worked in roles where we have needed to book in contractors for LEV testing we understand how difficult it can sometimes be. At orvitec we ensure a smooth process from start to finish and take down time seriously to avoid disruption where possible.

What to expect from us?

The following components are typically included in our LEV test:

  1. Visual Inspection: Examine the entire LEV system, including ductwork, hoods, filters, and fans, for defects, damage, or obstructions.

  2. Performance Measurement: Measure airflow rates at key points, verifying capture velocity and total volume to ensure performance standards are met.

  3. Ductwork Assessment: Evaluate duct design and integrity, checking for leaks, bends, or restrictions affecting airflow.

  4. Hood Design Evaluation: Analyze hood effectiveness in capturing contaminants, considering placement and configuration.

  5. Filter Efficiency Testing: Assess filter condition and efficiency for saturation or clogging affecting extraction.

  6. Noise Level Measurement: Measure system noise to ensure compliance with occupational limits.

  7. Compliance Checks: Verify adherence to health and safety regulations and standards, such as those from the HSE.

  8. Documentation and Reporting: Compile a report detailing findings, measurements, maintenance recommendations, and compliance issues.

  9. Recommendations for Improvements: Suggest enhancements to improve LEV system efficiency and safety.

  10. Follow-Up Measures: Advise on the timing of the next LEV test, generally recommended annually or sooner after significant changes.
